Woke up about 10am yesterday morning. Bit of tea n toast , then showered and dressed and out for a day of alcohol and footy. By 11am i was in the centre of Newcastle. Few pints later and it was upto St James Park to watch the mighty Toon army destroy Liverpool (well that was the plan anyways)A day of celebration and fund raising organised by the Supporters Club added to a nice atmosphere. The legend in question was Mr Bobby Robson. Onto the game and Liverpool just edged it 5-1.
Back in the pub afterwards a few more hours drinking and then we watched the Blackburn vs Man City game before moving on.Anyways about 7pm someone said they fancied the casino. So off we walked (staggered ?) to the Circus Casino behind Newcastle Central Station. First time ive been in there and it seemed nice enough. Although £5.80 for a pint of vodka and coke and £7 for a packet of tabs aint ideal.
I had a look at the cardroom and seen there was a £20 + £2 (with 1 rebuy OR add on)Figured good a time as any to break the live poker cherry so i registered. It was due to start at 8pm and there were 104 runners. 7k starting stack with 30 min levels.So cards in the air and 4th hand in a get dealt AA. Raise 3 x and get 2 calls .Flop comes down K 7 4 rainbow. I check, Next to act raises, other guy reraises 1k so i think sod it and push all in. Both fold and im upto over 10k.Pretty much card dead through to the break.
Couple of cigs and another pint before we go back to the tables. Go 30 mins without getting any card higher than a Jack and then i do get QQ. Raise it up and get 4 callers . AK9 flop. Raise, Reraise so i muck em.
Fast forward to 11.30pm. We have 66 remaining. The blinds are 800/400. I have 4.2k left. i pick up 77 in the Big Blind. couple of limpers so i jam. First to act calls me, as does the other playerA Q * flop so thats me out. They both check and a lovely looking 7 hits the turn giving me some hope. Bet and call and river is Q giving me the full house.First player bets , other one gets out the way and i show my 77. Unfortunately he has AQ for the bigger boat.
Im out but ive lasted 3.5 hours and beat nearly 40 players. Not perfect but for my first game and especially given the out all day preperation which prob wasnt ideal.
Something i will try again in the future for sure. Bit of fun, just shame i didnt go further.
Havent played online since 21st December. Get New Year out the way then i can go back to a few nights staying in and firing up the laptop. Hope everyone out there is winning plenty :)
Will do a Annual Gatsby awards post next time. See who is top of each list for 2008.

Might Be Worth Getting A Will Hill Account
First of all the following is my own views and thoughts and not connected with William Hill or anyone connected with the company at all
As 2009 approaches the last breaths of Cryptologic can be heard.
Originally WH was going to run them along side Ipoker for the whole of 2009. Was a nice chance to stick with Crypto for 1 more year. Any thoughts of whether they had to do this to honour any old contracts or not are unsure but now Crypto wants to merge with the Boss network and with Sun and Inter , etc moving to Ipoker if there is any form of Crypto network in 2009 its not going to be very busy...
So WH are now in a position where they are using a piece of software that the provider wants rid of and imo now have the upper hand. So will Crypto compensate them for not providing that service up till Dec 2009 as thought. Or will they leave the lights switched on for a few hundred of us to play alone. Or will they cancel contract, or offer sweetner to a firm that probably wanted out of it and now have everything to bargain with.
Either way , In My Own Personal View, it might be worth signing up to William Hill within the next 3 days as .......
a) you get to play Crypto a lot longer than anyone else
b) as a 2008 registered account you MIGHT (Note the word might - you might get fook all benefit either) be entitled to some sort of loyalty bonus or grandfathered account status when they make the transformation over to Ipoker.
It has been said that there are no Rakeback deals on Ipoker, just "loyalty" payments. But will that apply to WH. They arent paying to rent the skin, they are buying the parent company Playtech and into the bargain getting Ipoker so will their word be god.
Who knows. Anything could happen, sod all might happen. But IF it were me just to be on the safe side if i didnt have one, I would open one, make a very small min deposit and play a few hands before 23.59pm on 31st December 2008. Even if i never played again , just in case.
Who knows what time scales will apply. The only official word is that
a) WH on Ipoker sometime in 2009
b) Crypto finished as we know it definately before 2010
Not heard anything official or had any tip offs or inside info , just as said my own personal views and thoughts and it doesnt harm to have another account. Act upon or ignore it. Maybe nowt comes of it all anyways but you never know.

NEARLY !!!!!
After missing the Stars game i tried a couple of lotteries for the 6k and 10k
(i won 2 in the former - ticket and cash, 1 in the latter)
. Busted 50 something in the 6k gtd but was floating along quite nicely in the 10k gtd above average. Lost 99 to JJ to weaken me a bit further on. 20 paid (£106 min) and bearing in mind ive got in for 62p and not taken a rebuy or add on im starting to worry when 21st of 21.
.I then get my spot of luck and get dealt AKc. Up against a player called Whitedog who had won it on Tuesday and came 6th on Wednesday. I raise majority, he jams and i call to see QQ
I hit a K on the flop and double up and the bubble pops soon after.

BWCOOP Qualifying Update
Entered 08 game last night then went to bed. Finished 130th (alas not 72nd) whilst sleeping
Then sick scenes tonight as i got in late and missed the reg for tonights game by minutes.
Got 1 chance on Saturday night left to qualify. The Blogging World Championship Of Online Poker Dream is slipping away :(

AK mullered for 3rd night running

Enjoyed the WBCOOP game last night although missing out. Going to try and qualify on Thursday and Saturday. Wednesday game is too late and dont fancy the 8 game thingy on Friday. So 2 chances left to qualify. In Tuesdays NLHE qualifier it was a fantastic achievement by Would-Be (9th) , Joppa Road (7th) and United113 (3rd) to final table so as well as seat in final they won a couple of Sunday Million entries.

The other thing i noticed about the game was the spirit it was played in. Don't know if just because a blogger or a freeroll qualifier but people had a laugh, enjoyed themselves and there was no bad feeling or whining (ok i saved mine for the blog post- only kidding lol)
So Thursday i try again. Wish me luck because F**k knows i will need it.

No Poker At The Weekend !!!
Out on Friday night, Work Saturday then a bit of tv chill out. Had Backed Alex, (Laura to win was my best result but she was cheated !!!) and was right twice in a weekend when i also said Lewis Hamilton wouldnt win Sports Personality Of The Year.
a) because he doesnt appear to have one
b) iffy circumstances about the win imo with other guy stopping on last lap
c) he sodded off to Switzerland
d) its not really a sport.
Right i will never be a world champion, unless i get sponsored for the WSOP and luckbox past 7000 people but put me in his car and the next 20 people to read this blog in the rest and i will win. Its not rocket science, a bit of ability helps but anyone in the fastest car is going to win.
Give them all a spliff, a bottle of vodka then stick them all in Mini Metros and then i will say he is the best driver if he survives that. Im disappointed about the Team Award though. Surely that should have gone to Newcastle United for their 3-0 demolition of Portsmouth. Ok they have been crap and rarely tried but then again so was Ricky Hatton last year and he got placed :)
Apparantly today was national bookies day with all coupon staff given the day off.
With Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers all drawing !!!! surely no one had a fixed odds coupon up (Have they all ever drawn on the same weekend when playing individual games against lesser opposition - ie not playing each other)
Also word reaches me that Michael Owen has been offered a new contract. Tis a strange one as i dont think the top 4 would have him. Tottenham have shown interest but i dont think he would go there. With his stables in Cheshire maybe Everton or Man City. I dont really care either way. He's a decent striker but very expensive and too injury prone.

b) he will leave and be top goalscorer.

Arsed It Up
£5 entry - 284 runner Snowball Shootout on Will Hill tonight
5 bounties but as per i didnt get to share a table with one bar 5 hands with 40 left.
The shortstack git kept folding till the table broke lol
Ended up busting in 4th for £106.50 but should have been more.
Threw it away in 1 hand. 54c in BB. Sb min raises (blinds 4/8k)
I have a look at flop which comes down 2c 5s 7c
He jams for 64k , i insta call and face KK and miss :
Kippered. I know these things turn into a crap shoot at the end but was just thinking win that 4 left and im double 2nd place. Do manage to spin up remaining 13k a bit but never get above 40k and go about 10 mins later...

Bit better tonight
Done something last night i hadnt done for years. Went to bed at 10pm
Absolutely shattered and woke up full of the joys of spring today (ok well not quite but not as grumpy and shitty as normal)
Finished work late and went to parents for tea. Its amazing how you foresee life when younger. 20 year old living at home. Making £300 a week, £50 in board. tea on table, bath run, washing done. No sarky comments if spending the night online or going out with the lads, pulling and waking up with some girl and rolling back home about 10am with not a word uttered bar "hi, did you have fun"
Yet all the time, i just wanted to move out, have my own space, party every night. If i get reincarnated i will just live at home forever next time i think, even if married lol.
Anyways onto the poker tonight and it was a bit better.

but booted by ATd when he hit flush.
Did get 9 heads though so walked away from that with about £66.
Did have the nearly tournament winning moment with 15 left QQ vs AKs - Q** flop but he hit the flush. Swings n roundabouts. Got my swing when short in 10th with AQd hitting vs 88.
Happy enough with the night. Profit is profit regardless of small stakes/amounts.
A profitable week ahead as even if i bust early in everything tonights wins have paid for it.
So PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and see if i can better an 8th place :)

Toon Toon - Whats going Doon ????
Could be us if the team dont pull their fingers out of their arses
If matches lasted 89 mins we would be 9th but we have thrown away leads in the last minute against Man City, Wigan and now Stoke. After Titus Shambles scored against us another former player nets to deny us.
No quality, no commitment. The club seems ridden with bad luck and bad attitude from top to bottom. This time last year i was almost creaming myself with excitement at the idea of an English born billionaire taking us over, booting Shepherd and Hall out. Paying off the debt, owning our own ground, taking us off the stock exchange. Was then waiting for the superstars to arrive and then when the Messiah came back it was like being back in Dreamland.
Fast forward to current time and its a nightmare. You just cant see us progressing and the main aim now is to avoid relegation. No one wants to buy the club, no one wants to join and its just turning into a joke. For anyone missing the goals and optimism i offer the following Youtube link. Onto the poker, didnt play Friday. Saturday i played the Leaderboard $25k added and busted just before the cash. Qualified for the 9k gtd and went out in that in 50th with top 40 paid
AK done by AJ but the damage was done 45 mins earlier when i threw it away.
10k stack just above average. Called a 3x cut off raise in the BB with A2h
Flop was Ac 3h 5h. Raised it 1500, he jammed for 8k and i called. He had AKo and i missed
I didnt want to scrape into the cash and figured if i win im 3rd and have a shot. Maybe not the best call in hindsight but i was willing to gamble.
I console myself with the fact that the Monster BB with AJh prob still calls by AK to exit me but who knows. I qualified by winning a £5 sat (standard didnt seem too hot and i figured lotteries are too random and add up to a lot)
Anyways no complaints.. I played solid enough in 2 comps over 3 hours and took a shot and it only cost me £5.50. More importantly i enjoyed it. Seem a lot happier this month playing after horrendous November. Play my game, dont tilt, dont chase and the results will come. Maybe those results wont be as big as id like or anywhere near most but they will do for me and its what i feel comfortable at and do decent at :)

£8.49 down on the night. 2 top 20 cashes and little else. Played very conservatively in all 5 and the main thing i learnt is if im going to do this and grind away then i have to bin the head hunters. Half the prize pool is heads. If youre low you cant take opponents. If you're very low then when you do push multicallers trying to take yours so catch 22. You need to get off to a flyer.
Will continue for now to keep trying the 8.44pm as with over 600 runners and for only £3.30 its worth a try. All other HH i will bin. Despite the loss tonight i had fun, i enjoyed the games, had a bit crack on at the tables and never felt like i was rushing or chasing. Felt the way it used to , toddling along , odd cash ticking over and a few top 5s a month and balance grew gradually as outlays were small.
That is what i will do for now. Also quite relaxed and at 11pm shutting poker down and going to have an early night. Good luck in your games.

Worst Month Ever
November was terrible. Simply not good enough. Went through the full results and even worse than i thought. I dont brush up figures with bonuses or rakeback and the harsh reality of the month was that i ended November with a loss of £536.63
Big factor may of been recovery from car crash. Medication and tiredness but thats no excuse as if you dont feel 100% then you dont play. I played too much, too many tables at the same time and tilted too much. 7 nights out of the month total entry fees were over £100. Which for a small stakes player isnt big or clever. I've incorporated lottery fees within figures and they figure for over £150 which is a leak as the couple of times i got in i didnt cash anyways.
The bottom line is that i played tilty, impatient shit poker and deserved what i got which was a nasty red at the end of the month. I have built a very decent bankroll from low stakes poker over the last few years and i havent deposited for 2 years. I've withdrawn for hols and stuff and bought some nice gear but ive just classed p/l as whats in the account as thats the roll.
Looking back , twice after failing to win a lottery for the 10k gtd i bought in automatically (£50+£5 a pop) and once for the 40k gtd (£110+£10). Take those and the lotteries away and its still a loss but not as horrendous.
So then what am i going to do about it. Well its back to basics. The plan for December is...
a) No Lotteries
b) No buy in over £10 + £1
c) No more than £40 entries in 1 night or £200 in 1 week
d) No more then 3 comps at same time
e) Make a profit
f) stop being so impatient and risking tourney life to double up early.
I know i can make a profit playing £2 / £5 games so will stick to them. £10 games will be a treat earned if profit the previous night. If i make a loss 3 nights running then the fine is not to play for rest of week. This game is a hobby and ive made a nice few quid since i started. I think i got illusions of grandeur and began to think i was better than i actually was and played too many higher games. Well reality check time....
Im not going to win a major comp or be a high roller or all that guff.
I actually considered quitting the game after reviewing November. A similar loss in December and i will. So then rapped knuckles, advice hopefully taken on board and back to basics...

No Mtts on Hills tonight as they upgrading software tonight so changed tactics and played a few Stts. Havent played for yonks as to be honest i wasnt really good at them. Majority were years ago when i first start playing and i quickly ditched them for the multis as my sharkscope was down about $400 for lifetime stts.

I've withdrawn for hols and stuff and bought some nice gear but ive just classed p/l as whats in the account as thats the roll.
Looking back , twice after failing to win a lottery for the 10k gtd i bought in automatically (£50+£5 a pop) and once for the 40k gtd (£110+£10). Take those and the lotteries away and its still a loss but not as horrendous.
So then what am i going to do about it. Well its back to basics. The plan for December is...
a) No Lotteries
b) No buy in over £10 + £1
c) No more than £40 entries in 1 night or £200 in 1 week
d) No more then 3 comps at same time
e) Make a profit
f) stop being so impatient and risking tourney life to double up early.
I know i can make a profit playing £2 / £5 games so will stick to them. £10 games will be a treat earned if profit the previous night. If i make a loss 3 nights running then the fine is not to play for rest of week. This game is a hobby and ive made a nice few quid since i started. I think i got illusions of grandeur and began to think i was better than i actually was and played too many higher games. Well reality check time....
Im not going to win a major comp or be a high roller or all that guff.
I actually considered quitting the game after reviewing November. A similar loss in December and i will. So then rapped knuckles, advice hopefully taken on board and back to basics...

Barely played last night as heart wasnt in it. I did win a lottery (the last one i enter) to qualify for the 35k gtd. Busted in 200th or something when AA was cracked by 2 pair
No Mtts on Hills tonight as they upgrading software tonight so changed tactics and played a few Stts. Havent played for yonks as to be honest i wasnt really good at them. Majority were years ago when i first start playing and i quickly ditched them for the multis as my sharkscope was down about $400 for lifetime stts.
Anways returned to them tonight and Results were..
£05.00 + £0.50 D.Y.M....(4/10) - £0.00.....................(-£5.50)

1 hour, 6 games, 5 cashes, 2 wins. An hourly rate of £75.50
and ive even got my minus Sharkscope down to $299 lol
With that , im going to chuck it for the night and take the profit as surely that run of form wont continue and its one of those welcome back, win lots to try and get you to play them all the time.
No mucking about for 2 hours to win 25p above buy in either :)
Will try them again another time but not for a while.
So there you go, i hope reading this isnt as painful as it was writing.
Back to the low stakes slog, its what i do well.
